Brazil 0 0 Costa Rica Vinicius Jr Penalty Appeal Denied In Copa America Stalemate

Brazil 0-0 Costa Rica: Vinicius Jr penalty appeal denied in Copa América stalemate

Brazil was held to a frustrating 0-0 draw by Costa Rica in their opening match of the 2024 Copa América at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles on Monday.

Real Madrid forward Vinicius Jr went down under contact in the Costa Rica box in the second half and appealed for a penalty, but the referee waved away his claims.

Brazil dominated possession and created the better chances throughout the match, but they were unable to find a way past Costa Rica goalkeeper Keylor Navas, who made a string of fine saves. The result leaves Brazil in third place in Group D, behind Uruguay and Venezuela, while Costa Rica is in fourth place.

Brazil will next face Venezuela on Friday, while Costa Rica will play Uruguay.
